The Xi Omega Chapter was chartered on the UCI campus on May 31, 1980 by fifteen remarkable women. Since its inception, the chapter, consisting of women of higher character, integrity and great accomplishments, has been actively participating in service aimed at the advancement of the African American community. Historically, some of our service includes: voter registration drive, educational workshops, cultural awareness workshops, and annual scholarship donations.
In recognition of our outstanding service efforts for the year 1983, Xi Omega was awarded certificates by both the Black Student Union and the Dean of Students Office. In 1984, 1986, and 1989, the chapter received the Most Outstanding Organization award from the Black Student Union. Also, in 1989, Xi Omega was named Outstanding Organization by the Dean of Students Office. At our 1989 Regional Convention, in Anchorage, Alaska, the chapter received a Social Action Award and a Women Helping Women Award. In recent years, the chapter has won Social Justice Award by the Cross Cultural Center, the Most Outstanding Outreach Program from ASUCI and the Most Outstanding Educational Program at the 50th National Convention in New Orleans.
The women of Xi Omega have been actively involved in service on UCI’s campus and beyond. Through all of these efforts and more, the Xi Omega Chapter continues to serve the community with the goal of promoting education and unity. The mighty women of Xi Omega are fully committed and dedicated to the posterity and prosperity of the African American community. As glorious as our history is, our zenith has not yet been reached. We will not be content to rest on our laurels. We are journeying toward new horizons and will always ask how we can best serve society.
